Q. I have a great candidate to fill my vacancy.  How much money can I offer?

A. For external hires: Hiring managers may offer up to 10% above the mid-point for APS vacancies, if the department budget allows.  Salary requests above that level must be approved by the Associate Provost for Human Resources.  For bargaining unit positions, starting salary is determined by negotiated contracts.  Contact Rosanne Wesley or Elena Serra for appropriate salary information.  DO NOT discuss salary with a candidate BEFORE talking with Human Resources.

For internal candidates:
For APS positions, university policy dictates that employees’ compensation upon promotion must be at least 5%, and can be as much as 15%, if department budget allows.  If the new position is a lateral move (no change in range or grade), the employee’s salary remains the same.  Union positions’ salary information is dictated by negotiated agreements.  AGAIN, do not discuss salary until you talk with Human Resources
